Whitney Duncan ~ Right Road Now Album

Music is great. However, I am disappointed that I missed the fact that it's CD-R media rather than an official pressed compact disc. Amazon presents this as a good thing (it is "green" and allows reduced inventory) but the simple fact is that CD-R discs do not have the lifespan that pressed discs do. CD-R media can be very susceptible to heat and sunlight. If you don't know this, and you keep your disc in your vehicle (especially here in Texas!) you may find your disc unusable after a period of time. The same is NOT true of pressed compact discs.

Miranda Lambert ~ Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Album

There's no sophomore slump for Miranda Lambert, who follows her chart-topping debut, Kerosene, with a knockout punch. Both the title cut and the album-opening "Gunpowder & Lead" ("what little girls are made of") show that Lambert hasn't lost her edge or her appetite for revenge. Yet the quieter "Desperation," the more tuneful and tender "Love Letters," the wistful "More Like Her," and the primally intense "Down" show her emotional range and maturity.

Alan Jackson ~ The Greatest Hits Collection

Alan's brand of traditional country, with just enough of a contemporary edge to appeal to a modern generation, provides a contrast with the prevailing pop country normally recorded by Nashville's major label singers. This collection contains all his big hits from the early part of his career.

Many of the songs are upbeat, happy songs but I was drawn to his music originally by Here in the real world, a sad song that Alan delivers superbly, which was the title track of his debut album.

Norah Jones ~ Come Away With Me Album

It is not just the timbre of Norah Jones's voice that is mature beyond her 22 years. Her assured phrasing and precise time are more often found in older singers as well. She is instantly recognizable, blending shades of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone without sounding like anyone but herself. Any way you slice it, she is a singer to be reckoned with. Her readings of the Hank Williams classic "Cold Cold Heart" and Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You" alone are worth the price of the CD. Jones's own material, while not bad, pales a bit next to such masterpieces. Jones has all the tools; what will come with experience and some careful listening to artists like J.J. Cale and Shirley Horn is the knack of remaining low-key without sounding sleepy--sometimes less is not, in fact, more.

Toby Keith ~ Clancy's Tavern Album

When Keith sings, "Don't expect too much and I won't let you down" don't believe him. On this his 15th album, Keith has up the ante again and has set himself a career high standard. After having no top 10 hits from his last disc "Bullets in the Gun" and with no gold albums since 2008's "That Don't Make Me a Bad Guy," Keith has wizened up and have packed this disc with his best music in years. Keith has teamed up with Eddy Raven, Scotty Emerick, Bobby Pinson to craft songs with less predictable storylines and more multi-dimensional characters. In fact, there are no wasted characters in his songs; every character help convey Keith's emotions in very believable capacity.

Martina McBride Eleven Album

"11" is more than just the title of McBride's latest CD. Rather, this is also her 11th record with 11 newly recorded tracks in her illustrious career and it's released on October 11th. As if all of this is not enough, McBride will be hopping on the Amtrak to promote this record making 11 stops. However, it is not mathematical gimmick that will propel this disc to a brand new career high for this country diva, it's the songs. The majority of these 11 tracks are stellar -- packed with well-constructed melodies, thoughtful lyrics and catapulted by McBride's soaring high octane soprano. After 10 studio records with RCA Nashville Records, "11" marks a new beginning for McBride. On this her debut record for Republic Nashville Records, she has enlisted Bryon Gallimore (Faith Hill and Tim McGraw) as producer.

Lady Antebellum Own The Night Album

Reigning CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year Lady Antebellum will release their third Capitol Nashville studio album Own The Night. The album's lead single "Just A Kiss" has quickly become the fastest-rising single of the trio's career, climbing into the Top 10 on Billboard's Country Singles chart in just six weeks.
"We took more time to write and record this record than we've ever done before," says Charles Kelley. "I remember looking at Hillary and Dave at the GRAMMYs this year, on the wildest night of our lives, and saying `this is amazing...we'll never get to experience a moment like this again, but now we have to go home and get to work.'"

Adele 21 Album Review

In the past two years, Adele has refined and reinvented her unique sound that always puts her aching yet powerful vocals and lyrics at the forefront. These are songs that could have been released in the 60s as easily as 30 years from now. Adele has injected her trademark piano ballads with the best from several different musical genres including Americana roots and country, r&b, blues and gospel. The music is exciting and simply is. It lives, breathes.
